Mirror, mirror on the wall.. who's the fairest of them all?
So today I went to MAC at Burjuman Center to get me a face powder, been wanting to try this on. A Russian (not sure) sales attendant assisted me, she suggested me to get the NC35 shade.
Since I do not know what my shade is and what NC35 means, I approached a Filipina sales attendant, wearing all-black and in-full-make-up, to inquire and also asked her what shade she is using.
Her reply, "NC25. SIEMPRE, magkaiba naman tayo ng kulay! MAPUTI AKO! (NC25. OF COURSE, your skin tone is different from mine, I AM FAIR!)" then proudly showed me her arms and rolled her eyes like making-face-stuff. I wish you actually heard how she said it in Tagalog and seen her facial expression. Priceless!
Her gesture made me feel "dirty".
I never knew that a "fairer" Filipino can think highly much of herself.
Seriously, I know "our" obsession of glutathione and other skin whitening products and cakey-foundation-layering but oh never mind. LOL.
Here's a photo of me with my dad back in 2009 and it wasn't even photoshopped.
